First home buyers

Start your first home plan with the right questions.

Before you look at properties, work out your deposit, how much you can borrow, and whether you qualify for a government scheme. That is where we start.

Before the search

Get organised before the property search gets serious.

Use the checklist, then bring your questions to a broker when you are ready. The lender, not the broker, decides whether you qualify and whether you are approved.

  1. 01

    Understand your starting point

Think about your deposit, income, regular expenses, preferred property type and time frame.

  2. 02

    Check the official information

Government schemes, grants and concessions have rules that can change. Official sources and participating lenders confirm the details.

  3. 03

Talk it through with a broker

A broker explains the questions to ask, the documents you will need and what happens next.

General information only. It does not guarantee scheme eligibility, lender approval, borrowing capacity or a particular loan outcome.

Government support

Government schemes can reduce what you need upfront, if you qualify.

The Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme may help eligible buyers purchase with a lower deposit. Queensland grants and transfer-duty concessions may also be relevant. Property, location, price and lender rules apply, and a participating lender confirms eligibility and approval.
